This is because CIOB Chartered Companies are run by qualified professionals who strive to meet the highest standards of service delivery and client care.
Our company members choose how they describe themselves from four categories, depending on the type of services they offer and how they operate:
Chartered Building Companies and Chartered Construction Management Companies will build your project and can provide a wide range of supporting construction management services.
Chartered Building Consultancies and Chartered Construction Management Consultancies can manage the design, procurement and construction processes, or aspects of them, to meet your required timeframe and budget
What does it take to become a Chartered Company Member?
CIOB Chartered Company Members must provide evidence that they are run by experienced, qualified managers committed to the values of professionalism, integrity and accountability.
To qualify, they must meet the CIOB’s eligibility criteria:
- 50% of the Board of Directors must be Chartered Members of a recognised professional institute, and at least one must be a Chartered Member of CIOB (MCIOB or FCIOB)
- The company must designate a Chartered Member of CIOB from their Board of Directors as Responsible Officer
- The company must have been trading for at least two years
- All staff engaged in the management of the construction process must have achieved or be working towards appropriate qualifications following national or CIOB standards
- Staff must keep up to date on current thinking and developments appropriate to their responsibilities
- Professional staff must undertake sufficient study and personal development to maintain their professional registrations
- The company must abide by the CIOB Code of Professional Conduct
- The company must ensure that the people they employ are appropriately competent
- The company must always meet the requirements of their CIOB Chartered Company status

- Health, safety and wellbeing
